|
Born in 1914 in Aalborg, Denmark Børge Mogensen apprenticed as a cabinet-maker gaining certified proficiency in 1934. He studied furniture design at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts from 1936-1938 and then at the School of Furniture Design at the Academy of Arts in Copenhagen under Professor Kaare Klint. It was under Klint where Mogensen refined his designs to that of classical and very highly functional furniture. His designs draw heavily on that of Kare Klint's influences which include European and American Shaker to name a few. Børge Mogensen also studied shelving systems on a purely functional level. His research included the integration of shelving & storage as part of the living space instead of merely a necessity to be added to the living space. Being a prolific designer, Mogensen exhibited at the Cabinet Maker's Guild furniture fair almost every year until its end in 1965. Mogensen designed furniture for Erhard Rasmussen (cabinet-maker), AB Karl Andersson & Sönner, the firm "Boligens Byggeskabe", A/S Fredericia Stolefabrik, Fritz Hansens Eft. A/S, P. Lauritsen & Søn's Møbelfabrik, C.M. Madsen's Fabrikker and Søborg Møbelfabrik A/S. Børge Mogensen has won numerous awards including the Annual Award made by Copenhagen Cabinet-Makers' Guild in 1958. His works are well represented in museums around the world. Mogensen's designs concentrate on the functional while maintaining aesthetic beauty. Prized for their simplicity, attention to detail, and utility, his works will continue to appreciate in value. Manufacturers: Soborg Mobelfabrik, Fredericia Stolefabrik, FDB Mobler, P.
